SHANON LUCY
Shannon Lucy, originally from Nashville, has
discovered a striking new medium within the classical bars of musical
notation. Her large-scale imaginary scores are comprised of real
notes with no direction except for that which the viewer construes from
its random measures. Just as sheet music is a written representation
of music, Lucy’s representation of music is rendered to become an ornament
of design to enjoy aesthetically. Her compositions are not authoritative
but rather free and open to interpretation. She has captured a
certain jovial nonsense entrenched with emotion, chaos and nostalgia,
like that which a conductor might feel before he guides his orchestra.
Lucy’s Bad Thought series are “visual interpretations” of love,
loss and life, like the whistle of old country songs or the
whimsy of a children's rhyme. These undefined musical exaggerations
beckon us to look closer and to see it as a unique language and melodic
vehicle. Shannon Lucy currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
