WALDEMAR SWIERZY

Waldemar Swierzy is internationally known for his commercial posters relating to motion pictures, Chicago gangsters, Las Vegas card sharks and, and most notably, jazz performers and their instruments. He has so far produced more than 1,500 posters- an impressive number, which may make him the record holder.

The jazz series of five limited edition serigraphs were originally designed as posters for the Jacksonville "All That Jazz Festival" in 1983. The hard edges are typical of Swierzy's work.

Swierzy's early works were intended for cultural and public events such as film, theatre, circuses etc. As his status grew, Swierzy won the freedom to choose his own subjects, focusing on hard-edged American living. His awards include the Grand Prix Tolouse-Lautrec, Paris; Hollywood Reporters Poster Awards; Gold and Bronze Medal at the International Jazz Salon, and many more. He graduated from the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts in 1952 in Katowice, Poland and from 1979 until 1997, he served as President of the International Poster Biennale in Warsaw. Swierzy continues to work in his studio in Warsaw, Poland.
